Casa S.p.A. manage more than 12.000 public
residential apartments in the
public buildings of
L.O.D.E. of Florence area. Some of these buildings
roofings has been built in fibro-cement and it is necessary to supervise
carefully and contantly the maintenance status and create a
short/medium-term program for a sweeping replacement.
Casa S.p.A. have had to find out how– with the interested areas – to take
care of the problem about asbestos covers, a problem related to the lack
of financial resources necessary to dismantle, dispose and rebuild the
roofing with a suitable caulking.
That is why we tried to verify the
technic-financial feasibility of these intervents to dismantle the
asbestos cover and to install photovoltaic panels on the new covers. We
obtained a financial balance between costs and incomes: the costs are
covered by the incomes originated by the incentives of the ex D.M.
(Ministerial Decree) 10.02.2007 regarding photovoltaic panels
installation and its electric energy selling.
Access to the feasibility study "feasibility study of the project OUT asbestos cement covers, IN photovoltaic".
Between 2008 and 2009 Casa S.p.A. planned
and completed 12 interventions on twelve
residential public buildings
creating a photovoltaic area of mq. 6.267 with an energy production of
918.600 Kwh per year and a financial investment of more than 5 millions
of euros.(Access to the pictures of the work in progress of the construction site).

The society’s experimental program to
dismantle asbestos and install photovoltaic panels is collected in a
publication: "ASBESTOS OUT, PHOTOVOLTAIC IN".
In 2010 the program "ASBESTOS OUT,
PHOTOVOLTAIC IN" has been continued with 2 other interventions finished
in April 2011 creating a photovoltaic area of mq. 2.240 with an energy
production of 300.000 kwh and a financial investment of circa 1 million
